Guidelines MPN

NMPN decided in 2006 to write new guidelines, based on already existing national guidelines from the Nordic countries, Italy and Great Britain. The first version was published in 2007. The aim has been to write a document that can be used in all Nordic countries. We have strived to use evidence-based medicine, i.e the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions on our recommendations. However, it should be stressed that few randomized controlled trials exist in the MPN:s to support decision-making for individual patients.

The guidelines are written for health professionals with a speciality or interest in haematology. They have been updated in 2008 and 2009, incorporating the new diagnostic criteria established by the World Health Organization. We plan further updates on a yearly basis, and it is therefore recommended that colleagues use the on-line version, rather than to print and copy paper versions of the document.
